CPS Summit - Episode 2
Well after finally making it to Atlanta, GA for the 6th Annual Computer DJ Summit and hanging out for several hours, I decided to go get some dinner in me and while I was finishing my meal, I had the pleasure of meeting one of the new attendees. She came into the restaurant like a breath of fresh air, not knowing anyone, decided to sit down with me and have some dinner herself. Now I’m not one to readily allow business and romance to mingle freely, however I could not help but be increasingly captivated by her smile, her laugh and her personality.
I started off by going over my notes for the seminars the next day but soon found myself forgetting all about that, as well as my food, as I listened to her extraordinary story of success. In fact I cannot even remember if I ate the rest of my meal! I’m not sure that she even finished her meal either, but I do remember just sitting there and listening to her, asking a question here or there and listening to her some more. Everything else just sort of lost it’s focus as I thoroughly enjoyed what felt like an instant connection and understanding with a woman that I have not felt for a very long time. It seemed like time just stood still and I cannot even tell you how long we sat there talking and getting to know each other.
But somewhere in the back of my head I knew that it just wouldn’t be right to forsake all others at the drop of a hat, much less depriving her of what I knew would be an eye-opening experience, so I suggested that we continue talking in the lobby. But even with that we did not really stop talking as we walked out of the restaurant and met up with some of the other attendees. I seen a lot of old friends and met a few new ones, introducing her to them all. And as much as I tried to keep things as professional as possible, I guess at the very minimum a few folks noticed that I was quite taken with her. The tell-tale comment came from Professor Jam’s wife when she thought that we came there together. When I laughed and told her how we met, she said that she thought we looked very good together and that it was great that we hit it off so well.
The night crept on as we all sat around busily talking about the DJ business, computers, networking and so on - but all the while I could not help but keep looking over at her. At one point we did get separated for a while - she was talking to Professor Jam and a few others while I was talking to my friends Garry Lee and Robert. A short while later we caught up to each other again and she playfully scolded me for not telling her what I was all about, to which I sheepishly replied that I was very interested in hearing her story instead of mine. That’s when she smiled at me again - a smile that simply melted my heart.
Despite her ability to suspend time whenever she was around, the time to call it a night came all too soon for my liking. Many folks, despite eagerly networking with those all around, began to feel the time - I didn’t want to say goodnight to her! When I finally got back to my room, I laid there in bed, staring at the cieling for what seemed like hours, because I could not stop thinking about her. My pulse was quick and the butterflies in my stomach were working overtime. I rolled the many scenarios around in my mind, remembering all the while that I felt I should keep things professional between us, at least until after the next day’s activities done. Finally settling on that idea, I eventually drifted off into a deep sleep - her smile occupying my dreams as well.
