CPS Summit – Episode 3

The next day – Monday – was looking like it was going to be quite a busy day.  The schedule had seminars lined up all day long and going into the evening hours and the plan was for everyone to get together after dinner for the big party.  Also during the course of the afternoon, Tricerasoft was going to be conducting a workshop for all those folks who chose to learn all the ins and outs of Swift Elite.  Of course there was also plenty of time scheduled for all of us to break for lunch and again for dinner too.

But I was pretty tired, the few hours of sleep that I did get seemed like it was not enough, so I must confess that I hit the snooze button several times.  As much as I wanted to have a little breakfast to help jump-start my brain, I decided that a little extra snooze time would be better.  When I was finally ready, I headed on down stairs to the amphitheatre style meeting room to get ready for a busy day of learning, sharing ideas and some good old-fashioned networking.  When I got there, a good deal of folks were already there mingling, talking and networking – I dove right in!

When everything was ready to roll, Bryan Durio took the stage acting as MC and announcing the day’s activities.  First up on the seminar list was an informative presentation given by Garry Lee of Tricerasoft about several music file formats, especially those directly related to karaoke – and judging from the number of questions he fielded, I would say that it was a very well received seminar at that.  Bryan then introduced me as the next presenter - I gave a truncated version of my seminars that reviewed many of the basics of using a CPS, shared a few of the funnier experiences, as well as touching on topics of mitigating some of the problems that you can have with computers (especially laptops).  I fielded a good number of questions myself.

Bryan then introduced the power-hitter for the morning session, DJ Dr. Drax – President of the American Disc Jockey Association – who gave an awesome presentation on recession-proofing your business.  I know I took a lot of notes as did many others!  Drax was followed by Gai Marcos of Tricerasoft who gave an introductory tour of Tricerasoft and their many program packages and their web-based services that are essential for any DJ/KJ using a CPS.

We then broke for lunch, getting our grub on at the buffet line.  I sat down with Professor Jam and his family as everyone else just sort of jumped in wherever and all began busily discussing the seminars so far.  We discussed all sorts of things from the summit, to the DJ business in general as well as our private lives.  About 15 minutes before we were done, I excused myself to make my rounds to all of the tables and talk to all of the folks.  I also wanted to check the main desk to see if my books had arrived yet – which they didn’t.

The afternoon session was just as busy as the morning.  Bryan was again up front making all of the introductions, but I slipped out to hang in the Tricerasoft room for a while.  I also spent some time going around and getting a few pictures of the event and the people.  All the while looking forward to that evening so that I could spend more time hanging out with the girl that I couldn’t take my mind off of.  But a little before 4PM I had to slip back into the seminar hall, because I was back up again to make another presentation for all of the attendees.  Although it was not a formal presentation, rather it was more of an open-floor style discussion where I invited folks to chime in with their ideas or questions.  I was actually surprised at how well it worked and I may just develop this as another sort of presentation that I offer in the future.  After that we broke for dinner, which was a good thing because many of us were getting hungry after a full day of learning!

The night before the big day in Episode 2!  More coming soon in Episode 4, stay tuned!!!
