Wicked in the sense of wicked-good for computer DJs that is! The stage of computer technology is set to change drastically before our eyes in just the next ten years. What does that mean for those of us already using a Computerized Performance System or a laptop now? For lack of a better term, I’ll call it a major shift in paradigm from fragile components and trying to squeeze more speed out of CPUs to totally integrated solid-state memory and storage to absurd numbers of cores on a single chip as well as integrated CPU/GPU functionality. In a historically unprecedented move, Microsoft has announced that it will continue to support Windows XP through the year 2014! Traditionally, Microsoft discontinues supporting an operating system less than ten years after it is released. However with poor sales in the business sector as well as droves of people downgrading their systems to Windows XP, Microsoft is hoping to avoid the low-end computer manufacturers from shipping their consumer machines with Linux installed instead. Microsoft done did it again! In 2000 they released Windows ME (Millenium Edition) - which is quite possibly their biggest flop ever - followed by a less than stellar full public release of Vista, now they gone and screwed up XP as well. More specifically, the third service pack release also known as SP3 has been causing almost as much grief and headaches for PC users as Vista! Can you say train wrecks galore?
